The rapper revealed his political intentions in a 12 minute speech at the award show as he picked up the Vanguard Video award.
We're not sure how serious Kanye was about his presidential aspirations - he admitted to smoking a joint before coming out on stage - but he's already secured some major political backing from the Democrats who sent their support to the Yeezus rapper on Twitter.
They wrote: "Last night @kanyewest declared his candidacy for president in 2020. Welcome to the race, Mr. West. Glad to have you."
Kanye made the surprising announcement last night where he spoke at length - because he's Kanye - about his art, being high and becoming president.
He finished the speech with: "I have decided to run for President".
