Jay Z & Timbaland To Testify At ‘Big Pimpin’ Copyright Infringement Trial

In 2007, Jay Z, Timbaland, EMI, Universal Music, Paramount Pictures, and others were named in a copyright infringement lawsuit over the song “Big Pimpin’.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jay and Tim are scheduled to testify at the trial starting on October 13.

The legal dispute stems over a sample from the song “Khosara, Khosara” composed by Egyptian Baligh Hamdi. Osama Ahmed Fahmy is suing the parties for using his uncle’s melody.

Jay Z’s team argues that Hamdi’s family already received a “lump-sum buyout.” In addition, Timbaland reportedly paid $100,000 to EMI for the rights to “Khosara, Khosara.” Fahmy’s attorney claims those deals were invalid under Egyptian law, but the defendants have countered by saying Egyptian law does not apply in the United States.
